Relief for Rural Labor Shortage: Two Companies Returning to Gyeongsangnam-do from Vietnam

Gyeongnam delegation boosts key projects with Southeast Asian market expansion

- Met with the Governor of Bangkok to establish new partnerships in tourism and agricultural technology

- Gyeongsangnam-do seafood and agricultural goods made a splash, clinching a USD 3.5 million export deal at a trade consultation

- Signed an agreement with Thailand’s major food company CPF, leveraging their vast distribution network to open up export channels

- Signed an investment agreement valued at KRW 41 billion for two businesses returning to Gyeongsangnam-do from Vietnam

- Signed a cooperation agreement with Vietnam's Dong Nai province, celebrating a 28-year relationship; more industrial and seasonal laborers are expected

The Gyeongsangnam-do delegation, led by Governor Park Wan-su, successfully concluded a five-day visit from Apr. 29 to May 3, spanning from Bangkok to Dong Nai province, bridging the east and west of the Indochina Peninsula.

During their visit, the delegation expanded exchanges with Bangkok and developed channels for exporting agricultural and seafood products. They also signed agreements with two companies in Vietnam planning to return to Gyeongsangnam-do. Additionally, a cooperation agreement was signed between Dong Nai province to boost exchanges and stabilize the supply of rural labor.

Governor Park Wan-su said, “By building networks with Thailand and Vietnam, the two major markets in Southeast Asia, we've gained momentum for critical tasks at the provincial level. These include boosting the tourism industry, expanding market channels for Gyeongsangnam-do's agricultural and seafood products, and attracting both industrial and seasonal laborers.” He added, “We will improve practical cooperation with our partner cities and provinces and pioneer the Southeast Asian market to elevate the brand value of Gyeongsangnam-do globally”

The delegation visited the LG Electronics plant in Rayong, Thailand, and held meetings with local subsidiary heads to share localization expertise. They also discussed development strategies for further overseas expansion of companies based in Gyeongsangnam-do.

During their talks with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt at the Bangkok City Hall, Thailand, the delegation showed their commitment to strengthening mutual exchange and cooperation. Gyeongsangnam-do expects to share tourism experience with the global tourist city Bangkok, and promote mutual development in the tourism industry. This will serve as one of the growth engines for the province.

The export consultation meeting held in Bangkok to promote Gyeongsangnam-do's premium agricultural and seafood products resulted in a successful USD 3.5 million export deal. Additionally, the province signed an import-export agreement with CPF, a key subsidiary of Thailand's premier conglomerate, the CP Group.

This signifies that there is a steady demand for Korean food ingredients and that Gyeongsangnam-do's agricultural and seafood products are well-received in Thailand. This will mark the beginning of exploring new export channels through the agreement with the conglomerate.

The delegation then signed an investment agreement regarding the return of CK[L1] Co., Ltd. and DailyKing Inc. in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam back to Korea. Despite both companies being located in the capital region, they chose to invest a total of KRW 41 billion in Gyeongsangnam-do, drawn by its direct manufacturing sector and favorable investment conditions. They also agreed to hire 65 new employees.

Celebrating the 28th anniversary of friendship ties, the Gyeongsangnam-do delegation discussed substantive cooperation enhancement measures with Nguyen Hong Linh, the party secretary of Dong Nai province. Their talks focused on addressing the labor shortages in Gyeongsangnam-do's industrial and agricultural sectors.

Gyeongsangnam-do signed a cooperation agreement with Dong Nai province centered on "industrial and seasonal labor, and university exchanges." The key strategies of this agreement include facilitating exchange agreements between the University of Gyeongnam Geochang and Dong Nai University, as well as securing an agreement to attract seasonal workers between Geochang-gun and Dong Nai province. Such efforts have laid a solid foundation for Dong Nai residents to responsibly contribute to the workforce in Gyeongangnam-do’s industrial and agricultural sectors.
