The Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government (Governor Park Wan-soo) signed an MoU with the Korea Defense Industry Association (KDIA) to facilitate the development and export promotion of the defense industry in Gyeongsangnam-do.
The MoU signing ceremony was held in the afternoon of the 12th in the provincial government office, attended by Kim Myung-ju, Vice Governor of Economic Affairs, and Choi Byung-ro, the Executive Vice President of KDIA.
The agreement was made to activate cooperation and seek various opportunities for the development of the defense industry in Gyeongsangnam-do, as well as building a defense network, according to the plan to establish a KDIA branch in Gyeongsangnam-do.
On this day, the two parties agreed on the following: (a) Establishment of the KDIA branch in Gyeongsangnam-do, including recruitment and utilization of local talent; (b) Support for companies for the development of the defense industry and export promotion in Gyeongsangnam-do, and laying the foundation for cooperation between large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); and (c) Active cooperation in exchanging information related to the development of the defense industry in Gyeongsangnam-do.
KDIA was established in 1976 as a specialized institution for the defense industry. Its purpose is to enhance the competitiveness and promote exports of the defense industry. Additionally, it conducts research and plays a leading role in promoting the defense industry and expanding the export environment.
The first KDIA Gyeongsangnam-do branch is planned to be established within the Changwon Defense Industry Promotion Center this May. The branch is expected to take charge of on-site support for local defense companies and serve as a communication channel between defense companies and related parties.
The establishment of the first KDIA branch reaffirms Gyeongsangnam-do's position as a key hub and cluster of the defense industry in Korea. Gyeongsangnam-do is characterized by the concentration of defense-related system companies, SMEs, and research institutions.
Kim Myung-ju, Vice Governor of Economic Affairs of Gyeongsangnam-do, stated, "We hope the cooperation between Gyeongsangnam-do and KDIA will not only contribute to the development of the local defense industry but also strengthening the global competitiveness of Korean defense. As we are aware that cooperation with related institutions is crucial for the development of the defense industry, we will actively take part in strengthening the competitiveness of local defense companies and the expansion of their exports in cooperation with KDIA.”
