Spear

Spear

The spear uses the long pole to attach the other side. There are three types of spear in the early period of Joseon with Mo, Geuk, and spear. The Mo is a type of short spear with the sharpness on the head part of the Mo that it was great to use in a place where there is dense grass and trees that other weapons were hardly effective. The Geuk had the advantages of the spear and the Mo to have the functions of pull, pierce, and thrust with highly effective killing weapon.

The spear of Joseon was one of the categories for the national examination for military personnel that it was treated as a combat weapon, but the interests in the weapon improvement was declined that the length was shorten as well.

Spear

A convoy of Daemado, Dachibana Yashiro, who came to Joseon in 1587 said in mockery that "your spear has very short handle." However, the skill of spear was declined of its importance, compared to the skill of bow, but it was included in the national military examination and the selection test for ordinary soldier that it had made advancement continuously. This could be assumed that the missionaries who participated in the Imjin War said on their <Appendix of Annual Report on Japan in 1592> that "the Korea Soldiers use the spears very skillfully that the Chinese people also had some fears."
