Respect after His Death

Yi sun-shin was the man with extreme royalty, noble personal character and great leadership to be the most stand out military man during the Imjin War in his contribution in saving the country from the crisis and he would be a person to remain in the history of Korean history.

Yi sun-shin was great in writing that he left exquisite literary works in 《Nanjung Ilgi》, Sijo, and others, and in particular, those Sijos that he had in the military base were some of the finest master pieces with full of patriotism and love of his country.

When the news of Yi sun-shin died on duty reached to the Royal Court, King Seonjo sent the government officials to offer condolence and appointed his as the Wuijeong (deputy prime minister). In 1604, he was conferred as the first grade of Seonmugongsin with the naming of Deokpung Buwongun and appointed as Jwauijeong, and in 1793 (the 17th year of King Jeongjo), he was appointed as the Younguijeong (prime minister). In addition, the Siho of Chungmugong was rendered.

His tomb is in Eorasan, Eumbong-myeon, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do and it has the tombstone writing wrote by the king and Chungsinmun was established.

He was enshrined in Chungyeoldsa of Chungmu, Chungminsa of Suncheon, Hyeonchunmgsa of Asan and others and the size of Hyeonchungsa is the largest. Hyeonchungsa was built by having the scholars of the region submitted the sangso to King Sukjong of Joseon for his shrine, and the tablet was granted in 1707 (the 33rd year of King Sukjong), and Hyeonchungsa was devoted and dedicated.

Thereafter, during the time of Japanese colonialization period, Donga Newspaper hosted to collect the donation of people to repair Hyeonchungsa, and under the special order of President Park Chung-hee of the third Republic to expand the territory of Hyeonchungsa and made the place sacred, and the new exhibition hall was established to exhibit 《Nanjung Ilgi》 and other remains of Yi sun-shin that had been kept by the descendents of Yi sun-shin. And, it exhibits the Sipgyeongdo that displays his life and major battles.
